We’re almost there—Forma LMS 4.2 is just around the corner, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most significant updates in recent years.
This new version introduces a wealth of innovations. After the many structural improvements brought by versions 4.0 and 4.1, 4.2 delivers three major new features designed to make the platform more secure, interactive, and easier to manage. From more flexible user management to a new learning tool, and a completely redesigned course monitoring module—here’s what’s changing.
1. “Trash” Mode for Deleted Users
With version 4.2, deleting a user no longer means losing them forever. Thanks to the new “Trash” mode, removed accounts are temporarily archived instead of being permanently deleted or stored in the old, uneditable list.
- Easy recovery: a deleted user can be restored in seconds.
- Greater safety: mistakes are no longer irreversible.
- Conscious deletion: only an explicit action truly removes the data.
A simple yet highly useful system that ensures more peace of mind and control in daily platform management.
2. New Learning Object: “Activity”
A new type of learning content is here: the “Activity” Learning Object. This tool mirrors similar features found in Moodle and Docebo, and will replace and expand two existing functions: the old “Activity” feature in the grading register and the “Repository” module within courses.
With Activities, instructors can plan and manage personalized assignments directly within the course content structure. Learners respond by uploading files directly to the platform. These objects can be configured with prerequisites and integrated alongside other learning materials.
- Assignment creation: instructors define the task and submission method.
- Active participation: learners complete and submit the activity.
- Integrated evaluation: instructors provide feedback and assign scores.
This new LO enables the design of more interactive, hands-on, and engaging courses—moving beyond passive content consumption.
3. New “Course Report” Module
Version 4.2 also brings a major overhaul in statistics management: the new “Course Report” module fully replaces all previous internal course monitoring tools. Yes, you read that right—all of them, including the grading register, which is finally retired!
- Unified interface: data, progress, and results are now centralized.
- Improved clarity: redesigned layout with intuitively organized information.
- Full integration: even the new “Activities” are included in the report.
- Greater efficiency: easy to view, filter, and export.
Thanks to this module, course management becomes simpler, more transparent, and immediate.
Another Step Toward Forma 5
With these three innovations—User Trash, Activities, and Course Report—Forma LMS 4.2 marks a major step forward: more data security, more interactivity in learning, and clearer monitoring.
This version is designed to improve the daily work of administrators, instructors, and organizations, reaffirming Forma LMS as one of the most complete and flexible open-source platforms for corporate training.
But these updates also represent a crucial advancement toward the ultimate goal: Forma 5. Unfortunately, the crowdfunding campaign launched two years ago hasn’t yet provided the resources needed to reach that goal on schedule. Still, the door remains open to anyone who wants to help us accelerate the journey.
