how to restrict or prevent download on materials

how can we restrict or prevent students on downloading materials.. I wanted students to view only the files.

If you're using the file learning object type, you can't, as it is definitely a download.
If you want to protect your contents you'd better embed them in scorm, even though nothing is really impossible to grab on Internet...
